Registering the Tool
Pensive support smooth LTI 1.3 Integration with Dynamic Registration.
First go to your Developer Keys page in your canvas administrator account, and add a developer key via “LTI Registration” menu.
Then put in our Dynamic Registration URL, which is https://lti.pensive.com/lti/register
The permissions and placement settings will be automatically populated for you. Review them and click ‘Enable & Close’.
We ask for exactly the same permission as Gradescope, because we offer a seamless transition. Specifically we require following:
Can create and view assignment data in the gradebook associated with the tool
Can view assignment data in the gradebook associated with the tool
These two enables instructors to create and link Canvas assignments to Pensive assignments
Can create and update submission results for assignments associated with the tool
Can view submission data for assignments associated with the tool
These two enable instructors to post grades back to Canvas from Pensive.
Can retrieve user data associated with the context the tool is installed in
This enables instructors to sync rosters from Canvas to Pensive.
We also require you to share name and emails for the same reason as gradescope:
email: We require this to notify students of enrollment, successful work submission, grades published, and regrade request answers.
Name and student ID: We require this to match scanned exam papers to individual students.

Course Navigation
This enables students and instructors to quickly connect to Pensive. For the student, it automatically adds them to the roster of the class. For the instructors, it gives them an easy way to link the Canvas class to Pensive class, to do things like syncing the roster or uploading student grades.
Course Assignments Menu
This enables instructors to directly create and link Pensive assignments inside canvas.
Assignment Selection
This enables instructors to link existing canvas assignments to Pensive.
You may wish to disable placement if you are installing the app account-wide, and let the individual instructors turn them on.
After you successfully register the tool, you will see a new row pop up in the Developer Keys page. Copy the corresponding Client ID for Pensive.
Installing the App
After you obtain the Client ID from registering the tool, go to the Apps menu of the account or class you wish to install Pensive in. Press “+ App” button and choose “By Client ID” as the Configuration Type, and put the Client ID here.
You can now test if the integration is working by clicking the ‘Pensive’ course navigation menu.
Since we need to manually review and approve the integration on our end for security reasons, you may see a test page instead of the dashboard directly. In any case the integration was successful and we will approve it soon.
